WRESTLING ROUNDUP: Archer wins Southern Slam

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Archer won the 42-team Southern Slam in Greenville, S.C. on Saturday.

The Tigers scored 289 points to win their fourth tournament of the season. Lexington S.C. was second with 178 points. Parkview was fifth with 141 points. Buford was 18th overall.

Vinny Artigues and Zach Wright were tournament champions. Grant Aycox, DaQuan Olbert, Sam Bullard, Daniel Bullard, Thomas Bullard and Robby Kwarteng were runner-up. Chis Diaz and M.J. Couzan were third. Defending state champion Ernest Alexander did not wrestle for the Tigers.

Chip Ness took first place for Buford and Brayden Hartley and Jack Barber placed seventh.

Broncos win Duluth Duals

DULUTH — Brookwood had four wrestlers go 4-0 as the Broncos won the Duluth Duals on Saturday. The Broncos (11-2) defeated Duluth 48-30, Fayette County 48-30, house team 54-21 and Chestatee 39-30.

Drew McCrokle, Thanh Nguyen, James Pham and Andrew Collins were 4-0. Josh Moore and Caleb Harris were 3-0, Stephen Solamon was 2-0 and Alan Hernandez was 3-1.

Bears goes 2-2 at tourney

LAWRENCEVILLE — Mountain View went 2-2 at the second annual Mountain View Duals on Saturday. The Bears (10-2) defeated West Hall 45-26 and Marist 42-24 and lost to Whitewater 35-28 and Chattahoochee 41-31.

Kenny Cook (120 pounds) and Octavian Jarda (182) were 4-0, while D.J. Schrenk (145) was 3-0.

Lanier takes third at North Oconee Duals

BOGART — Lanier placed third at the North Oconee Duals on Saturday. The Longhorns had wins over Greene County (60-3), South Gwinnett (54-24), Wooland-Stockbridge (51-28) and losses to Newton County (51-27) and Social Circle (63-15).
