Locals Minter, Nkemdiche make All-SEC football teams

Gwinnett products Kevin Minter of LSU and Denzel Nkemdiche of Ole Miss named to the Associated Press All-SEC Football Team, which was released on Monday.

Minter, a Peachtree Ridge grad, was a first-team selection at linebacker and Nkemdiche, a Grayson grad, made the second team as a linebacker.

Minter leads LSU and is tied for third in the SEC with 111 total tackles. His team-leading 13.5 tackles for loss rank fourth in the conference. The junior also has three sacks, an interception, five pass breakups, four quarterback hurries and one forced fumble.

Nkemdiche, a redshirt freshman, made a sudden impact on the Ole Miss defense. He led all SEC freshmen with 78 tackles (12 for loss), four forced fumbles and three interceptions.

Georgia's Jarvis Jones was the SEC's defensive player of the year and the league's top offensive honor was a unanimous selection, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel. Manziel also won freshman of the year honors and his coach, Kevin Sumlin, was coach of the year.
