LAWRENCEVILLE -- A cinematic thriller about the discovery of a dead body in the peaceful, small town of Morningside, N.J., is being filmed in Gwinnett's county seat.
But many locals aren't questioning it. Blue Dusk Productions' decision to shoot at locations in Lawrenceville is good news, said Lisa Sherman, the city's economic development director.
Sherman said the cast, crew and staff from the independent movie, "The Morningside Monster," are renting hotels room, eating the local fare and spending money at the stores. "It's a really great thing for our economy," Sherman said.
She added that the silver screen entourage is shooting in downtown Lawrenceville, and they filmed a scene at Rhodes Jordan Park.
She said that the crew is filming both interior and external shots for the movie, which stars Robert Pralgo ("The Vampire Diaries"), Tiffany Shepis ("The Violent Kind"), Amber Chaney ("The Hunger Games") and Nicholas Brendon ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer").
It also enlists the work of writer and producer Jayson Palmer and director Chris Ethridge.
According to a news release, the film "unfolds around the discovery of a brutally murdered corpse" in the small New Jersey town.
"Sheriff Tom Haulk and his deputy embark on a desperate journey to catch the killer, pitting them against friends, enemies and even each other," the release stated.
The city of Lawrenceville is no stranger to hosting out-of-town production crews, Sherman said.
Films such as "Wanderlust," starring Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston have also been shot in Lawrenceville.
