SNELLVILLE -- South Gwinnett evened its Region 8-AAAAAA record with a 54-41 win over Shiloh Friday night.
The Comets (3-2,1-1) trailed early against a Generals (0-1,0-1) squad playing its first game of the season. However, a 20-4 run by South in the second quarter gave the Comets a lead that they would not relinquish. South had four players score in double digits led by Collette Onenda's 15. Arielle Harvey had 10 points and 14 rebounds, Jashawna Johnson had 10 points and seven rebounds and Taylor Paris had 10 points.
Shiloh was led by Uche Ibecunjo, who had nine points and nine rebounds. Courtney Blair added eight points and Bria Ratliff also added eight points and five steals.
Central Gwinnett 60, West Forsyth 53
LAWRENCEVILLE -- Central Gwinnett let an early lead slip away before recovering and defeating West Forsyth 60-53 on Friday night.
The Black Knights (4-2) led for nearly the entire game until West took the lead in the fourth quarter. Central regained the lead with three minutes to go and extended the margin for the win. Carol Reynolds led the Black Knights with 18 points and nine rebounds. Alex Frazier pitched in with 15 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Briana McGee also contributed eight points and six rebounds.
Archer 63, Grayson 48
LAWRENCEVILLE -- Archer improved its Region 8-AAAAAA record to 2-0 with a wire-to-wire, 63-48 win over Grayson on Friday night.
In a game that featured 52 combined foul calls, the Tigers were able to repel several Rams comebacks. Madison Newby led Archer (4-0,2-0) with 22 points and six assists. Kayla Rogers had 15 points and Alesha Mann had 10 points, six steals and five rebounds for the Tigers. Grayson (2-3,0-2) was paced by Lika Bah's 12 points and 10 rebounds and Jessica Ewing's six points and six rebounds.
Dacula 52, Berkmar 46
LILBURN -- Dacula held off a Berkmar rally by hitting free throws late in the game to secure a 52-46 win Friday night. The win improved the Falcons' record to 3-1, 2-0 in Region 8-AAAAAA. Anazjah Mays led Dacula with 14 points. Katy Daniels had 11 points and five steals and Jonnae Johnson pitched in 10 points.
Habersham Central 53, Collins Hill 43
MT. AIRY -- Collins Hill dropped a 53-43 decision to Habersham Central on Friday night. Bre'ana Singleton led the Eagles (3-2, 1-1) with 11 points, eight assists and seven steals. Emylee Whitten poured in 11 points and Marissa Bayer had eight points and seven rebounds.
Lanier 57, Johnson-Gainesville 20
SUWANEE -- Lanier opened with an 18-2 lead after the first quarter and coasted to a 57-20 win Friday night over Johnson of Gainesville.
Shelby Threlkeld led the Longhorns (1-3) with 20 points in a game that saw Lanier play deep into its bench for much of the second half.
Providence 41, Our Lady of Mercy 32
LILBURN -- Providence Christian Academy evened its record at 2-2 with a 41-32 win over Our Lady of Mercy Friday night. Jessie Kowalewicz led the Storm with 17 points and Aubrey Gold had 12.
Duluth 43, Peachtree Ridge 27
DULUTH -- Duluth used a strong defensive effort to defeat Peachtree Ridge 43-27 Friday night in Region 7-AAAAAA action. Alyah McGriff led the Wildcats (3-1, 1-0) with 15 points while Katie Powell added 12 points for Duluth.
Central Gwinnett 64, West Forsyth 37
LAWRENCEVILLE -- Central Gwinnett raced out to a 19-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and was never threatened in a 64-37 win over West Forsyth on Friday night. Brian Egejuru had 16 points for the Black Knights (4-2). Shaun Jones and Justin Martin added 15 and 12 respectively for Central.
Collins Hill 68, Habersham Central 19
MT. AIRY -- Collins Hill improved to 2-0 in Region 7-AAAAAA with a 68-19 win over Habersham Central Friday night. Devin Mitchell paced the Eagles with 19 points and Darius Joell added 12 points for Collins Hill (4-2).
Archer 60, Grayson 47
LAWRENCEVILLE -- Archer remained undefeated with a 60-47 win over Grayson Friday night in a Region 8-AAAAAA contest. Bryan Hamlet led Archer (5-0, 2-0) with 21 points. Randall Smith, Aubrey Overby and Nafis Floyd each had 10 points for the Tigers, who held the lead throughout the game.
Dacula 56, Berkmar 39
LILBURN -- Dacula held the lead the entire game and defeated Berkmar 56-39 Friday night. The Falcons (3-1, 1-1) were led by Kevon Tucker, who netted 22 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Jalen Williams added 13 points and four rebounds for the Falcons.
Wesleyan 48, Pinecrest 45
CUMMING -- Wesleyan evened its record a 2-2 with a hard-fought 48-45 win over Pinecrest Academy Friday night.
The Wolves opened the game with a 10-0 run but Pinecrest closed the gap and the game see sawed back and forth with neither team leading by more than five points. Will Clifton led Wesleyan with 20 points and Jaye Rochell added eight.
Shiloh 85, South Gwinnett 50
SNELLVILLE -- Shiloh raced out to an early lead and coasted to a 85-50 Region 8-AAAAA win Friday night over South Gwinnett. Nate Mason led the Generals (2-0, 1-0) with 23 points while teammate Evyn Smith contributed 10 points and eight assists.
Providence 56, Our Lady of Mercy 45
LILBURN -- Providence Christian came from behind to win its first game of the year, 56-45 Friday night. The Storm fell behind 20-6 but roared back behind the home crowd. Charlie Scott scored 17 for Providence (1-3) and Abj Kushanu added 10.
Holy Innocents' 57, Hebron 46
ATLANTA -- Hebron Christian Academy dropped a 57-46 decision to Holy Innocents' Friday night. The Lions (2-3) were paced by Derek Vandiver's 17 points.
