LAWRENCEVILLE -- The Lawrenceville Police Department will host a 5K road race this week to simultaneously honor those who lost their lives on 9/11 and raise funds for a pair of local charities.
The "A Run to Remember" benefit will begin at 7:45 a.m. Saturday at the Lawrenceville Police Department, located at 300 Jackson Street at the intersection with Scenic Highway. Event-day registration begins at 6:30 a.m. and an opening ceremony will be held prior to the race.
The third annual 5K race and fun walk is aimed at remembering those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. All funds raised will be given to Georgia Gwinnett College (for a scholarship in the criminal justice degree program) and the Lawrenceville Police Benevolent Fund (which assists officers wounded in the line of duty).
