Poker tourney to benefit pet rescue

DULUTH -- The third annual Texas Hold Em Canine Pet Rescue fundraiser is scheduled for 6 to 11 p.m. Sept. 13 at the 1818 Club.

The event will feature a Texas Hold Em poker tournament. Cost to attend is $75 for players and $35 for non players.

There will also be a buffet, cash bar and silent auction.

All proceeds will be used to continue the organization's goal of rescuing German Shepherd dogs in Georgia and placing them in "loving and forever homes."

Mill Creek Cluster Education Foundation plans gala

HOSCHTON -- the Mill Creek Cluster Education Foundation has scheduled its second annual gala dinner and auction, titled, "Magical Evening of Excellence."

The event will take place at 6 p.m. Oct. 13 at Chateau Elan.

The fundraiser will benefit public schools in the Mill Creek cluster, including Duncan Creek, Fort Daniel, Harmony, Ivy Creek, Patrick and Puckett's Mill elementary schools; Glenn C. Jones and Frank N. Osborne middle schools; and Mill Creek High School.

Ride for the troops scheduled

CONYERS -- The Operation Sandbox Ride for the Troops is scheduled, rain or shine, for 10:30 a.m. Oct. 20 at Stone Mountain Harley Davidson, 900 Dogwood Drive S.E., Conyers.

Registration starts at 8 a.m. Costs are $20 for bikers, $10 for passengers. Active military personnel get half off with ID.

All makes and models are welcome for the police escorted ride. The event also will feature food, vendors, live music, raffles and a special patriotic program.
