Savannah Blue Jackets (1-AAA)
-- Coach: David Jackson
-- 2011 record: 2-8
-- Last week: Season opener
GAC Spartans (6-AA)
-- Coach: Tim Hardy
-- Record: 1-0
-- Last week: Beat Stone Mountain 34-26
The rain forced most area teams into gyms for practice earlier this week, but Greater Atlanta Christian didn't miss a beat with its artificial turf field.
"We just put on a rain jacket and we're good to go," GAC head coach Tim Hardy said.
Hardy won his debut as GAC head coach last week, an up-and-down win over Stone Mountain. The Spartans, behind a big game from Kyle Scales, jumped up big early and watched the large advantage slip away. But they made plays down the stretch to start the season off right.
"It went pretty well, all things considered," Hardy said of the opener.
In addition to Scales, the play of inside linebackers and first-time starters, junior Trevor Dedecker and sophomore Paul Carothers, was a bright spot.
"They showed up and made a whole lot of plays," Hardy said of Dedecker and Carothers.
Their play, and that of their fellow defenders, will be important against a Savannah team with plenty of speed and offensive threats.
