Archer's Ernest Alexander

Mountain View Bears (7-AAAAAA)

-- Coach: Doug Giacone

-- 2011 record: 3-7

Archer Tigers (8-AAAAAA)

-- Coach: Andy Dyer

-- 2011 record: 5-6

The two schools, which both opened in 2009, share a nice rivalry that continues this season in non-region play. A new twist this year is a coaching change with Doug Giacone, who makes his head coaching debut Friday. He replaced Tim Hardy, now the head coach at Greater Atlanta Christian.

"The stress isn't the (first) game (as head coach), it's all the things in the periphery, the logistical aspect of everything," Giacone said. "I've been coaching for 13 years and I find peace and solitude in the game itself because that's what I'm used to."

Archer and Mountain View have split the first four games against each other, but the Tigers have won the last two outings. Their victory last season kicked off a run to the playoffs for the first time.

Archer is out to repeat that feat this year, but improvements must be made from its preseason scrimmage against Collins Hill, which led 35-10 at halftime when the two teams played their starters. There were some bright spots, though, like the running of Ernest Alexander and defensive lineman Robbie Armstrong.

"We did some really good things and we did some really bad things (in the scrimmage)," Archer head coach Andy Dyer said. "We hit both ends of the spectrum."
