Corey Jarvis and Jonathan Sanks were both hired in 2010 and both have made positive strides with their programs. For Berkmar, which was one of the youngest teams in the area last fall, a year's maturity will help greatly. The defense, led by Jaden Le, should be the Patriots' strength, but the offense is coming along, too.
"Berkmar's much improved as far as the offensive line," Jarvis said of his opponent. "From what we've seen on film from last year, the offensive line looks pretty good. And that was there problem area last year."
Duluth's participation numbers are the highest they've been in years with the guidance of Jarvis, who has made the sport popular again at the school. The Wildcats have gotten close to a playoff berth the past few seasons, quite the feat for a program that hasn't made the postseason since 1994. Jarvis has won more games the past two seasons (eight total) than the Wildcats did the previous six seasons combined (six total).
Duluth had a solid outing in its scrimmage vs. Dacula, led by wide receiver Kevin Steverson.
"(Steverson) played well in the scrimmage," Jarvis said. "He really stepped up into a leadership role."
