Mejia leads G-Braves team awards

LAWRENCEVILLE — A day after being named the International League's rookie of the year, Ernesto Mejia found himself with another honor Thursday.

The Gwinnett Braves slugger was named the team's most valuable player in the annual team awards announced before the final home game of the G-Braves season. With five games left to play, Mejia already had a new team record with 92 RBIs in a season and entered the game hitting .303 with 31 doubles.

Joining Mejia with postseason team honors were Cory Gearrin for most outstanding pitcher, Jose Constanza for most competitive and Stefan Gartrell for the fan favorite.

The team did not award its Community Award before the game.
