DULUTH -- A fraudulent insurance claim involving a $64,000 BMW could result in a Duluth man's deportation, authorities said.
Yoon S. Lee, 42, was arrested this week on charges of insurance fraud and false report of a crime in connection with an alleged vehicle theft in April.
Lee called police in April to report that someone had stolen his 2011 BMW X5 sport utility vehicle, valued at $64,000, from a business near the Gwinnett Place Mall.
According to a report, Lee told Gwinnett police he'd gotten drunk at a nearby sports bar and could not drive home -- so drunk that he'd forgotten whether or not he left his keys in the vehicle or locked the doors.
In the ensuing months, investigators found that Lee still had possession of the BMW and was trying to have it shipped out of the country while collecting on an insurance claim, according to arrest warrants.
He reported the vehicle stolen to "get out from under it," warrants state.
Lee was arrested Tuesday evening and remains without bond at the Gwinnett County Jail. He's also being held for federal immigration authorities, records show.
Lee works in the restaurant industry, according to jail records.
