PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE: The Quinn House

Signs & Wonders, Inc. (Quinn House) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation established to offer an alternative to the homeless and needy on a non-discriminating basis. Gene Brinkley, the Executive Director, and his staff of full-time volunteers’ main goal is to help people restore or develop real relationships and return to a productive lifestyle with a renewed sense of self-worth and self-respect.

Our founders, John and Carrol Quinn began this mission some 25 years ago by opening their home in Snellville to a needy pregnant girl. It soon out grew their house and moved to downtown Lawrenceville at 120 S. Perry Street. It has grown to include men's shelters, women's shelter, a licensed food bank and pantry. Our community outreach also provides clothing, furniture and other needs to residents of Gwinnett and other counties, at no charge.

The first priority of this ministry from its inception has always been to give a hand up to the homeless and needy been group homes. One of Carrol Quinn's fondest sayings, “It's hard to convince a person that they are loved by God or anyone else, when they are tired, dirty, hungry and have no place to go”, has become our mantra.

The main focus of our men's home is the recovery and restoration of substance abusers and homeless men who have come into our program wanting to make a new start.

Our women's house is at this time setup as a transition facility to help single moms while they acquire gainful employment and become financially stable.

Our food bank/panty last year gave away over $3 million worth of perishables and non-perishables as well as feeding our residents. The persons visiting our food pantry are most often low-income senior citizens and single mothers, but anyone may call for an appointment to receive assistance

Assistance with clothes and furniture may also received by appointment and availability.
