Cops: SC online predator snared in Barrow

WINDER -- Authorities say a South Carolina man made a three-hour trip to Winder this week with intentions of having sex with an 8-year-old girl and her mother.

Instead, David Alan Wolf, 62, of Rock Hill, was met by law enforcement Tuesday and arrested in connection with an ongoing undercover investigation into online sexual predators.

Wolf had been chatting online for two weeks with an undercover Winder police officer whom he thought was the 34-year-old mother of the young girl, said Barrow County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Matt Guthas.

"Investigators said Wolf was very explicit in requests for sexual acts through his online chats," Guthas said.

Wolf was arrested without incident and remains at the Barrow County Detention Center.

The Sheriff's Office encourages parents to monitor children's internet activity, including chat logs, history of sites visited and social networking sites. Guthas advised parents to report all suspicious activity to law enforcement.

"Even though an alleged parent was the person chatting in this particular case, children themselves remain vulnerable to online predators," Guthas said.
