ATLANTA (AP) -- U.S. House Speaker John Boehner plans to attend a breakfast for Georgia's Republican delegation at the GOP convention in Florida.
Georgia House Speaker David Ralston said that Boehner has agreed to appear at the Thursday gathering for the Georgia delegation in Tampa.
Ralston said that he and Boehner have met several times to discuss federal funding for deepening the Port of Savannah. State and business leaders in Georgia are seeking to deepen the harbor to accommodate larger cargo ships coming through an expanded Panama Canal in 2014. The project is expected to cost more than $650 million.
Ralston described Boehner as a friend and said the delegation will be honored to hear from the top-ranking Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives.
