Student outburst led to lockdown Friday morning

LILBURN -- Administrators placed Berkmar High School on lockdown as a precaution Friday morning after a student at the facility "had an outburst," district officials said.

As of 11:45 a.m., the lockdown procedure had ended, and everyone was reported as being safe. The safety measure lasted about 20 minutes, said district spokesman Jorge Quintana.

"A student had an outburst," Quintana said. "Everyone's fine at the school. Obviously, for the safety of our students and staff members, we have plans in place for any kind of situation like that, so the school did what they had to do."

He said Lilburn Police were called out to the facility. School Resource Officers also were present.

Quintana said during a lockdown procedure, no one is allowed to come onto the school campus or leave the school campus "for the safety of everyone there.

"Depending on the situation, the school will take action so that the situation won't escalate. In this particular situation, it was not an emergency, but lockdown was a precaution the school took to make sure it didn't escalate into an emergency."

We are glad security protocol exists and that everyone is OK but just what kind of an “outburst’ by a SINGLE student LOCKS down an ENTIRE campus?

Could we get a little more info here or did he just ask about the GCPS Chamber funding since that seems to be in LOCKDOWN too?

Just a guess ... Probably a 'special needs' student who is mainstreamed and they are protected to their right for 'privacy'. The government forces us to educate most everyone in the public schools, no matter what the cost, either financially or safety - security to students trying to get an education.

Sounds like a prison, were they all asked to go back to their cells? Sounds like big over reaction over nothing, typical government school.

To teelee: Sounds like you're an idiot. Do you even know what a run-on sentence is? Sounds like you paint with a broad brush. Typical ignorant redneck.
