Longtime Wesleyan leader retiring

PEACHTREE CORNERS -- Wesleyan School's assistant headmaster for academic affairs announced recently that the 2012-13 year will be her last at the learning institution.

Kathy Benson's retirement is effective May 2013, nearly 15 years after she became a part of the Wesleyan administration.

Starting as dean of faculty, school officials said Benson has played a major role in developing the K-12 curriculum, helping create the Academic Council and establishing a professional development program for all faculty members.

"Kathy has been a godsend over the past 14 years, and there will be celebrations for her here in the spring," said Headmaster Zach Young. "I thought, though, it would be nice to make the announcement to everyone now, so she gets a full year of love from all of us and a round of applause prior to retirement."

Young said that current Middle School Principal Ramona Blankenship will take Benson's position beginning in the 2013-14 school year.

Blankenship has been a part of the Wesleyan faculty since 1997.
