ACWORTH (AP) -- Authorities say a woman has died after falling in a crosswalk and then being struck by a car as she tried to cross a highway northwest of Atlanta.
The Georgia State Patrol says 51-year-old Melanie June Mayes of Acworth died Monday night.
State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright says that Mayes was walking across Georgia 92 at Wade Green Road when she fell in the crosswalk around 10:30 p.m.
Authorities say she was struck by a 2006 Pontiac G6 driven by a 25-year-old Acworth woman.
Mayes died at the crash scene, less than a mile from her home.
No charges have been filed.
