Wife charged with plunging steak knife in man's back

PEACHTREE CORNERS -- Concerns over fidelity led a Peachtree Corners woman to reportedly plunge a steak knife into her husband's back in the apartment they shared.

Dorthy Tran, 22, called 911 about 7 p.m. Thursday to report that she had stabbed her husband, telling an operator he was in need of medical attention.

Gwinnett police arrived at the couple's Chelsea Park Lane apartment to find Raheem Davis, 31, on his knees in the parking lot, his shirt soaked in blood, "trying to scream for help," an officer wrote in a report.

Sitting on exterior stairs, Tran calmly told police, "I did it, I stabbed him, and I want you to take me to jail," the report states.

Tran's motivation, she later told police, was her husband's repeated infidelity and past physical abuse.

She suspected Davis of having two girls in the apartment that day while she was at work. She "snapped" when they began arguing about it, snatched the knife from the kitchen, stabbed Davis as he sat on the couch, pulled the knife out and dropped it on the floor, the report states.

Davis picked up the knife and headed outside, hiding the weapon on some stairs before fleeing to the parking lot, his wife told police.

Both were transported separately to Gwinnett Medical Center for treatment, where Tran received several stitches for a cut on her hand from the knife.

Davis could not be reached for comment Tuesday. Court records show he is on probation for a March arrest on battery and obstruction of a 911 call charges at the same apartment.

In that incident, Davis tore his wife's clothing, scratched her and physically prevented her from calling authorities, according to an arrest warrant. He pleaded guilty to those charges in April.

Tran is scheduled to appear in Gwinnett Magistrate Court at a probable cause hearing Friday.
