LAWRENCEVILLE -- Investigators are probing a fire late Monday night that destroyed a large vacant home in the 1500 block of Alcovy Road in Lawrenceville.
A passerby reported the fire about 11:45 p.m. at the two-story, 7,000 square-foot property, situated roughly 100 yards off the roadway and adjacent to Freeman's Mill Park, officials said.
Fire crews brought the blaze under control at 12:50 a.m., but not before the home was destroyed.
No one was at the home when firefighters and police arrived. No injuries were reported.
Due to the magnitude of the damage, firefighters had to bring in heavy equipment to remove debris and completely extinguish the fire, said Fire Department spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge.
The exact cause of the fire is under investigation, Rutledge said.
