Former Providence Christian standout Collin McHugh, who pitches for the Class AAA Buffalo Bisons, was named the International League Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
The right-hander was brilliant in two starts the previous week against the Pawtucket Red Sox, lowering his post-All-Star break ERA to 2.70 in seven starts. The 25-year-old, in his fifth professional baseball season, was promoted from AA Binghamton earlier this season.
McHugh allowed just one run in 12 2/3 innings in the two outings vs. Pawtucket. He got a no-decision in a 5 2/3-inning outing on Monday, Aug. 13 and then was dominant in the second game, the "Futures at Fenway" matchup at Boston's Fenway Park.
McHugh fared well on the big stage, scattering five hits over seven scoreless innings in a 2-0 Bisons victory.
