Ga. college president to face critics of new name

AUGUSTA (AP) -- Augusta residents upset at the name chosen for the city's new university are getting a chance to face the school's president.

Georgia Regents University is the name the state Board of Regents chose last week for the school that will result from merging Augusta State University with Georgia Health Sciences University. Many local leaders and residents wanted to call it the University of Augusta or some other variation including the city's name.

The president of the merged schools, Ricardo Azziz, has scheduled two forums Thursday to discuss the consolidation and will likely face questions about the name too.

A Facebook page created to protest the college name has been "liked" by more than 4,300 people.
