PEACHTREE CORNERS -- Determining the cause of death for an injured man found behind a Peachtree Corners office building this week could hinge on toxicology tests, police said Tuesday.
Police are calling the death suspicious. According to a police report, the man lay face down at a back door, his head in a pool of blood. The man has not been identified, but police hope his tattoos might point to his name.
Gwinnett police responded at 2:29 a.m. Monday to a call about a suspicious person sleeping or possibly dead behind a building at 25 Technology Parkway South, located in an office park off Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter said the building houses several businesses.
When officers arrived, they discovered the man dead, "with several head injuries from an unknown origin," Ritter said.
The man had no identification or anything that would suggest who he was. Ritter said there's no indication of how old the man is, or that he was homeless.
The Gwinnett County Medical Examiners Office is awaiting toxicology testing in hopes of pinpointing how he died, Ritter said.
Investigators described the man as a large frame white male, between 5 feet, 10 inches and 6-foot-2 inches tall, weighing about 200 pounds. He has two tattoos, one being "very unique" and in a unique location on the body, Ritter said.
Police are withholding descriptions of the tattoos, "in hopes that anyone who is intimately familiar with the male will come forward and help identify (him)."
Ritter said a cleaning crew initially spotted the man and called police. The area in question falls within the new city limits of Peachtree Corners, he said.
