PREP ROUNDUP: Lions win silver bracket of South tourney

Peachtree Ridge won the silver of the South Gwinnett tournament on Saturday. The Lions defeated Monroe 15-3, Rockdale 11-2 and Cedar Shoals 12-0.

Quinn Hill got a pair of wins in the circle and Sarah Walker also won.

Sam Pierranunzi was 5-for-8 with five runs and two home runs during the tournament. Mariah Johnson was 4-for-10 with two doubles, a triple and three RBIs. Sarah Walker went 3-for-5 with two runs and three RBIs, Kayla Jones was 4-for-4 with two doubles and homer, Savannah Turvy was 4-for-7 with three RBIs and a homer, Julie McCollom was 5-for-5 with three RBIs and Leanne Davis had a home run.

Bears win gold division bracket

Mountain View is off to the best start school history after winning the gold bracket of the South Gwinnett tournament on Saturday.

The Bears (5-0) defeated Shiloh 10-2 with Kaley Hennelly as the winning pitcher. She was also 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Lindsey Baxter went 1-for-3 with a run and and RBI, Kara Adams was 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs and Cara DeSandre was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

The Bears also defeated Social Circle 9-2 with Hannah Seagriff striking out four to get the win. Baxter was 2-for-2, Sammie Daughtery went 3-for-3 with an RBI, Shea Balzar was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The Bears' win was over Salem 10-2. Taylor Miller with 2-for-3 with two runs, Courtney Kichefski was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Daughtery was 1-for-3.

GAC wins pair of games

NORCROSS -- Greater Atlanta Christian's Mary Johnson threw a no-hitter in the Spartans' 16-4 win over Tri-Cities on Saturday.

Johnson struck out five batters to get the win and was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.

Jada Lake was 3-for-3 with a homer, three RBIs and two runs. Courtney Czentnar had a triple and scored four runs. Grace DeBoer (3-for-3, three RBIs, two runs), Jordan Smalls (two runs) and Anna Kane (two runs) also had good games offensively.

Earlier in the day, GAC shut out M.L. King 15-0. Lake got the win in the circle, allowing one hit and striking out six.

Czentnar was 2-for-2 with a home and three RBIs. DeBoer was 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs, Johnson went 2-for-2 with three RBis, two runs, Smalls had a triple and scored a run, while Caroline Oglesby and Kane each scored two runs for the Spartans (3-0).

Wesleyan takes fifth at tourney

GAINESVILLE — Wesleyan went 3-1 at the Lanier Pointe Park tournament on Saturday to finish in fifth place.

The Wolves (4-1) defeated Commerce 2-0 in the opening game thanks to a shutout by pitcher Dacia Jones. She allowed four hits, two walks and had one strikeout. Landyn Duley was 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Victoria Distasi was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a stolen base and a run. Lillie Baker went 2-for-2.

The Wolves lost to Flowery Branch 2-0 with Haley Gleerup as the losing pitcher. CaraMia Tsirigos was 2-for-3 with a double.

Wesleyan defeated Jefferson 5-1 behind the strong arm of Jones, who allowed three hits and five walks. Duley was 2-for-3 with a two RBIs and a run. Tsirigos was 2-for-2 with a two-run homer and a walk.

The Wolves finished the day by beating White County 8-0 with Amanda DeLaPerriere getting the win after allowing four hits and striking out four. Emily Farrow was 1-for-1 with a walk, two RBIs and a run. Hope Morgan was 2-for-2 with a run and Isabella Mateu was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.

Mill Creek third at Sequoyah Classic

CANTON -- Mill Creek went 3-for-3 in the Sequoyah Classic on Saturday to take third place in the season opening tournament.

The Hawks lost to Etowah in the opener 18-25, 21-25 and then bounced back with three straight wins over Oconee County 25-13, 29-27 and 26-24, 25-22 and Marietta 25-11, 25-53. The Hawks lost to Sandy Creek 23-25, 20-25 and Alpharetta 20-25, 25-27.
