ATHENS — Georgia head football coach Mark Richt announced that seven walk-on players, including Gwinnett grads Merritt Hall and Connor Norman, have been awarded scholarships.
It is the first UGA scholarship for five of the players, including the two Gwinnett products.
Hall, a redshirt freshman from Wesleyan, is No. 1 on the fullback at depth chart. The 5-foot-11, 238-pounder was named the team's most outstanding walk-on in the spring.
Norman, a redshirt sophomore who played for Peachtree Ridge, contributed in all 14 games last season. The 5-foot-10, 208-pounder, the team's most outstanding defensive walk-on in the spring, has a chance to start at safety this season.
The other first-time scholarship recipients are defensive back Luis Capella, split end Rhett McGowan and linebacker Kosta Vavlas. Former walk-ons Blake Sailors and Brandon Harton, given scholarships last year, had their grants renewed by Richt.
