Duluth accepting applications for academy

DULUTH -- Residents with an interest in learning more about their city are encouraged to attend the annual Learn, Engage, Advance Duluth Academy, a six-week program designed to teach attendees about operations, services and overall essential functions of the municipality in western Gwinnett County.

Applications are being accepted now for the academy, which is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. each Tuesday from Sept. 25 to Oct. 30.

Alisa Williams, public information director with the city of Duluth, said the program aims to offer residents an interactive learning experience, which includes information about city services, programs and responsibilities. In addition, she said, those who attend get to interact with elected officials and the city staff as part of the program.

"The program sparks interest in local issues, presents information about important questions facing the city, provides an avenue for residents to help plan the community's future and gives citizens a hands-on experience in city government operations," according to a news release.

Applications are available online at www.duluthga.net or at City Hall. Deadline for applications is Aug. 31. For more information, email awilliams@duluthga.net or call 678-475-3506.
