ATLANTA -- They're creepy and they're kooky, mysterious and spooky, they're all together ooky ... the Addams Family. The eccentric family is coming to the Fox Theatre on Tuesday to sing and shock audiences because they have a new adventure to share: Wednesday has fallen in love.

And it's not anyone from the dark side. He is a sweet, gentleman who comes from a respectable family and the Addamses are in for a treat when they meet him and his "normal" parents for dinner.

"I think the audience loves this show because they find out that they are more like this family than they realize," said Sara Gettlefinger, who plays Morticia Addams. "I think that they have a great experience with the bizarre family because they can relate to it."

In this story, young Wednesday is in her 20s -- yes, grown up -- and is beginning new chapters of her life, but she doesn't know how to tell her family about her love interest. She eventually tells her father, Gomez, and insists that he keeps the relationship a secret from his wife, Morticia.

Gomez has never done such a thing, so things spiral out of control from there.

Gettlefinger enjoys playing Morticia because she's strong and traditional in her ways, but also really odd at the same time -- think Donna Reed without blonde hair, pearls or an apron.

"Well, I like the fact that she is an interesting brand of two different people," she said. "She sticks to her guns instead of conforming, but she is also a family women who wants to control the household."

Although the story has evolved from the traditional Addams Family story, die-hard fans and others in the audience really love the show, according to Gettlefinger.

"We've definitely had great responses from audiences," she said. "They recognize so many of the same characters and themes, but they love that it's a new take on the show."

The play runs through Aug. 19.
