LAWRENCEVILLE -- No injuries were reported in a pair of late afternoon house fires in Lawrenceville on Thursday.
Gwinnett County firefighters were dispatched to the 800 block of Georgian Point Drive just before 5 p.m. Thursday after a resident witnessed lightning striking the home. Fire and smoke were coming from the "gable to the attic" when crews arrived, fire department spokesman Lt. Colin Rhoden said.
Firefighters entered the house and extinguished the flames from inside. Only moderate damage to the attic and exterior of the home was reported, but four residents will be displaced, Rhoden said.
At roughly the same time, more firefighters responded to a two-story home on the 1800 block of Stone Forest Drive. Upon arrival, crews were greeted with fire coming from the chimney and the peak of the roof. Flames later spread to the attic, Rhoden said.
The blaze was ultimately contained to the attic, roof and chimney with only moderate damage. The was also moderate water damage to the home's lower level, officials said.
One adult was displaced in that incident, Rhoden said.
