County selling guns confiscated by police

LAWRENCEVILLE — Gwinnett County is selling its confiscated firearms to the highest bidder under a new state law.

The County Commission this week approved a contract with Montgomery, Ala.-based Gulf States Distributors to purchase 62 guns for $10,760.

Gwinnett County police Cpl. Ed Ritter says that it marks only the second time the department has held a public auction for firearms that were seized during a crime. In the past, police destroyed them.

Ritter says the highest bidder must be a licensed firearms dealer.

The money raised from the sale will go to the police department.

Ritter says the department plans to hold auctions twice a year from now on.

Oh good, that's $173.00. I wonder who's life will pay for that. I'm sure they're all hunting shot guns and small caliber taget rifles.

Which BOC Heathen is either a part owner or relative/friend of Gulf States' principles?

What happens when/if one of these guns is used to commit a crime? Although I do own a number of firearms and believe in the right to bear arms, if I held public office I would not want to deal with the POSSIBLE aftermath of this decision. It seems as though our BOC seldom thinks beyond today in many of their decisions.

No need to worry.....the deal is for the benefit of the cops and you probably already that know that they are exempt from all culpability for their actions. Any commissioner involved will point their finger at the cops and that will be the end of it. And as usual, Danny Porter will yawn and smile at his buddies.
