POLITICAL NOTEBOOK: Three candidates to attend same event but promise solo races

Residents have a chance to meet three candidates on Aug. 21 runoff ballots.

But no, all three candidates say, they are not running as a slate.

"The fact that Tracey (Mason Blasi) and I are attending the same event is simply because we both are friends of Tom Witts and have both received Tom's support," State Court judge candidate Emily Brantley said in an email about the meet-and-greet, which Witts, a Snellville councilman has organized for 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Summit Chase country club.

Brantley said she has not endorsed any candidate in the Superior Court race, which is between Blasi and attorney Kathy Schrader on the same day that Brantley will square off against Pam Britt for an open State Court seat.

And Blasi agreed, saying running as a pair isn't allowed under Judicial Qualifications Commission rules.

Commissioner Mike Beaudreau, who faces a runoff with Tommy Hunter on the GOP ballot the same day, is also expected to attend the meet-and-greet but said he also is running a solo campaign.

"With the run-off election just around the corner it would have been difficult for Tom to organize separate events," Brantley added.

Olens to speak at Republican Convention

On Wednesday, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus announced five additional headliners who will address the Republican National Convention Aug. 27-30 in Tampa, including Georgia Attorney General Sam Olens. More convention speakers, including the keynote, will be announced in the coming days.

Olens, former chairman of the Cobb County Commission, will represent Georgia as a delegate.

On a related note, Joe Newton is in the news again. He filed a frivolous ethics complaint against Mike Beaudreau, but new rules prohibit that old trick during the election cycle, so it was refused. I regret that I have known Joe Newton for several years. He is a low level disposable hired political gun that has often been sent in to do the dirty work such that other hands like those of Bill McKinney and Charles Bannister can remain relatively clean. My favorite encounter was when Joe emerged from under his rock during Bannister’s re-election campaign, (allegedly) spreading freshly laundered cash from questionable sources (the IRS also became aware of and interested in this) in excess of the legal contribution limit (Bannister was the recipient, and he eventually conceded the violation to the Ethics Commission) from Joe’s one-man PAC, which the state later declared invalid. Joe threatened everyone that objected to his slimy tactics with some high-level “lawyering” (his word) that he claimed to have. I happen to have been friends with the now deceased Georgia Supreme Court Justice for which Mr. Newton was briefly a law clerk and supposedly attained these skills, and the former always offered less than positive references for the latter. In the process of many of us receiving Joe’s standard lawsuit threats, his 60 plus rap (arrest record) sheet was discovered via public records and published. Hopefully this adequately lays to rest the credibility, character and motivations of Joe Newton. I’ve always strongly believed that one could tell the most about someone from who his enemies are. Given that the slimy henchman extraordinaire Joe Newton has been dispatched to smear him, Mike Beaudreau is looking vastly better than ever, and his obviously Bannister-friendly opposition deserves close scrutiny.

Last election cycle he was FOR Bannister and Lasseter. Tells you something doesn't it?

Mike Beaudreau has EARNED voter disdain all by himself, regardless of what Joe Newton or any other political hack has done. Beaudreau's socialist trash plan, cell phone tower fiasco, support for raising sales taxes, and bragging about the link between the Chamber of Commerce and the BOC (with our taxpayer money involved) are all reasons enough not to vote for him.

Joe Newton and George Anderson, like two peas in a rotten pod.

Beaudreau and Obama, two total hypocrites, but at least Obama runs as a Democrat instead of claiming to be a Republican like Beaudreau. Both believe in more government, raising taxes, and spending the taxpayers money.

Even though good is OK even Sears in its heyday had a Better and Best ranked item available...

Even if you believe that you have been represented ethically, BEFORE you personally vote - please at least read pages 3,4,5,12,13,28,29,35,36, 49,52,53 if you can’t take the time to read the WHOLE thing. (Which really every resident that votes SHOULD do)

Because after reading page 52 and then attending the AUGUST 2011 BoC meeting live where a sitting commissioner that went through the experience personally, actually called staff BORDERLINE insubordinate publicly, you have to wonder if the Grand Jury Inquiry experience and its recommendations even took the slightest hold.

As was often printed in the report, just because it wasn’t proved to be CRIMINAL doesn’t make it RIGHT.

If you didn’t attend, you can see the recorded video on the Gwinnett County Website for yourself - revealing indeed.

BOC Public Hearing August 23, 2011 Segment 2011-0761

Approval to clarify the actions previously approved bt yhe BOC on May 3, 2011, and May 17, 2011, related to the proposed privatization of Brisco Field. Time: 01:07:57 - 02:02:00

Remember also that Joe Newton had NOTHING to do IN ANY WAY with the creation of this report.
