GAB: Free sterilizations for Duluth area cats

DULUTH -- Planned PEThood, located at 2860 Buford Highway, is offering 1,000 free feral cat sterilizations for any pet living in the 30096 zip code area, thanks to a grant from PetSmart Charities.

No appointments are necessary for free-roaming cats. They can be brought to Planned PEThood at 8 a.m. Monday through Thursday for free sterilization. Each cat will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated for rabies and receive an eartip.

"This is a really good offer and one that will end when the grant monies run out," said Lynette Purves, co-director, Planned PEThood. "We really want to see citizens caring for cats in zip code 30096 take advantage of these free spay/neuter surgeries to help reduce the free-roaming cat population in Duluth."

Planned PEThood is also having a kickoff party for the 30096 Project, and they invite anyone interested in helping cats in their neighborhood to attend. It's scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 23 at Planned PEThood in Duluth.

Planned PEThood is a 501(c)3 organization that relies on grant funding and donations to offer free to low-cost sterilization services for pet owners in the community.

Residents living in 30096 can call 678 561-3491 with any questions regarding catching and sterilizing feral and free-roaming cats.
