Fugitive unit nabs jilted lover accused of shooting ex

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Two months of research and surveillance led to the capture on Friday of a Buford man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend in a harrowing car chase.

A Gwinnett County Sheriff's Department fugitive unit tracked Dejuan Wallace, 20, to a home on Laurel Lane in Decatur, where he was taken into custody and transferred to the Gwinnett County Jail.

Wallace is being held without bond on two counts of aggravated assault and a probation violation.

In May, Wallace allegedly fired several shots from his vehicle at his ex, who was the passenger in a car her boyfriend was driving near Lawrenceville. The woman, a 20-year-old Lawrenceville resident, was struck once in the arm.

At one point, police said Wallace rammed the other vehicle, sparking a chase.

The boyfriend circled back to Duluth Highway, where he spotted an officer parked at an intersection and sought help as Wallace fled, police said.

Wallace's probation stemmed from an incident last year involving the same woman. According to court records, Wallace had texted the woman at her work following a break-up. The threat read, in part: "They better get me before I get you. I swear to God I'm going to kill you."

Wallace pleaded guilty under first offender status to terroristic threats and acts. He was sentenced to five years probation and ordered to have no violent contact with the victim.
