LAWRENCEVILLE -- Members of the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office helped arrest a Michigan man wanted on year-old homicide and dogfighting charges.

Samuel Steel III, 43, of Kalamazoo, Mich., was arrested Monday in Gwinnett County. According to warrants, he is wanted in his home state on eight felony charges, including homicide, assault with intent to murder, two charges related to dogfighting and four separate counts of weapons violations.

The local warrants were taken out by the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office. Jail logs list the FBI as the arresting agency.

Details about the nature of the arrest, or why Steel was in Gwinnett, were not immediately available Tuesday.

According to warrants and previous reports by Michigan-based media, Steel is believed to be responsible for the April 2011 shooting death of 35-year-old Milo Conklin. An alleged accomplice, Harry Matthews, was arrested in the case last December.

A second man was also shot in the incident but not seriously injured.

Steel was also wanted in connection with a Kalamazoo dogfighting ring, in which he "did knowingly own, possess, use, buy, (or) sell ... an animal for fighting or baiting."
