GAINESVILLE — Authorities say a boater facing a homicide charge in a deadly collision on Lake Lanier faces has waived his first court appearance.

Reports show 44-year-old Paul J. Bennett of Cumming was scheduled to appear Monday in Hall County Magistrate Court but waived that appearance.

A grand jury indicted Bennett in connection with the June 18 collision that killed 13-year-old Griffin Prince and his 9-year-old brother, Jake, both of Buford. Among charges he faces are first-degree homicide by vessel and boating under the influence.

Authorities say Griffin Prince's body was found several days after Bennett's fishing boat collided with a pontoon boat the boy and his family members were aboard. Jake Prince died at the scene.

Bennett's attorney, Barry Zimmerman, could not immediately be reached early Monday.
