Peachtree Ridge grad Rhea Taylor, a regular member of the U.S. National Softball Team, signed a contract this week with the Chicago Bandits of the National Pro Faspitch league.
Taylor had a stellar summer with the national team, helping the Americans to the World Cup of Softball title in July. She led the team with nine hits in the tourney (for a .500 batting average), scored seven runs and was 6-for-6 on stolen bases.
The outfielder was the 2010 USA Softball Player of the Year during her college career at Missouri. A four-time All-Big 12 selection, she holds Missouri records for batting average (.402), at-bats (784), hits (315), runs scored (234) and stolen bases (184).
"Rhea is a player we've liked for awhile now," Bandits general manager Aaron Moore said. "She has the potential to be a game-changer with her speed and ability to get on base. She has played recently with the U.S. National Team, so she should be ready to go right away. Adding a player of her caliber down the stretch is something that could help turn the tide a little for us."
Taylor joins a Chicago outfield that also includes former Shiloh and Georgia Bulldog standout Megan Wiggins. Wiggins has a .283 batting average with six home runs and 16 RBIs.
