The Lilburn and Snellville police departments will be participating Tuesday in the "National Night Out Against Crime," giving residents the chance to come out for demonstrations, tips and other interaction with public safety officials.

Lilburn's festivities will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lilburn City Park. Snellville's will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on the city's town green, located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 78 and Oak Road.

Attendance is free for both events, which will include safety demonstrations, public safety vehicles, crime prevention tips and activities for kids. For more information, visit cityoflilburn.com or snellville.org.

National Night Out was started in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch. According to its website, the annual event is "an effort to heighten awareness and strengthen participation in local anti-crime efforts."

More than 15,000 communities worldwide are expected to participate in this year's events.
