Mr. Willie Lee Ashworth, age 90, of Suwanee, GA passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2012. He was born in Forsyth County, GA and was a lifelong resident of Suwanee. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Dulcine (Nuchols) Ashworth; sister, Estelle (Ashworth) Martin and a brother Duess Ashworth. “Paw Paw” as he was affectionately known by his family, is survived by the love of his life, his wife of sixty-four years, Lonnie Mae (White) Ashworth. Surviving in addition to his wife are sons Bonnie Ray Ashworth and his wife Connie of Commerce, GA and Danny Lee Ashworth and his wife Janet of Suwanee, GA. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Chris Ashworth of Commerce, Heather Maxwell of Commerce, Amanda Thane of Aberdeen, NC, Samantha Raynor of Gainesville, GA and Dan Ashworth of McClellanville, SC; eight great-grandchildren are also left behind as part of his Godly legacy. He leaves behind one surviving sister, Mrs. Cleo Boles from Barnesville, GA numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Mr. Ashworth was a businessman formerly owning Capital City Machine Shop in Atlanta and Suwanee Machine Shop in Suwanee. Being a machinist and a Christian businessman were two callings of his life that he fulfilled to the utmost and enjoyed thoroughly. Mr. Ashworth served his country well in the Army during World War II as part of the 100th Infantry Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart for a serious injury sustained in the “Battle of Bitche” in France and then received the Bronze Star for his heroic acts during that battle. “Paw Paw” was first and foremost a believer in Jesus Christ and then a Baptist by choice. He serviced for years as a Deacon of Peachtree Road Baptist Church where he was a member for over seventy years. His legacy as a Godly man will not be lost on anyone who ever knew him. Patience, perseverance, dedication and love were all elements that embodied who he was. He will be remembered by all, missed by all and forever cherished by all who ever knew him. Funeral service will be Friday, August 3, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Ashworth and Rev. Winfred Martin officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Peachtree Road Baptist Church cemetery in Suwanee, GA.
