Four of the 12 Georgia golfers selected for the upcoming Women's Southeastern Challenge Match have ties to Gwinnett County.
Lawrenceville resident and retired Gwinnett County educator Darlene Werhnyak, one of four senior players on the roster, is joined by Gwinnett grads and current college golfers Lauren Court (Collins Hill) and Emee Herbert (Greater Atlanta Christian). Court plays at Georgia State and Herbert plays at Tusculum. Duluth resident Mercedes Huarte, who played college golf at Jacksonville State, also is on the team.
The inaugural event, scheduled for Aug. 13-14 at Ocala (Fla.) Country Club, pits teams from Georgia, Florida and Alabama in a competition. The new tourney replaces the Georgia-Florida Women's Team Matches, which began in 1981.
