DULUTH -- Kids can have their day Sunday, just in time to have one last blast before school begins.

The city of Duluth has planned a festival for National KidsDay, a tradition created in 1994 by KidsPeace to encourage adults to spend more meaningful time with their children.

The event, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the Duluth Town Green, features live entertainment, including dancers, puppets and a magic show.

A petting zoo will have 30 animals for kids to love on, including bunnies, dwarf goats, pot-belly mini pigs, ducks and chickens. The free Kid's Zone will also feature the Atlanta Hawks Fun Truck and the town fountain.

Kids can also enjoy a Slip n Slide, Extreme Slide, Snake Obstacle and Fire Truck Combo for $1 per ride and pony rides for $5 per ride.

Vendor booths include the Gwinnett Gladiators, Malibu Grand Prix, the Southeastern Railway Museum and Miss Cindy Dance Studio, with crafts and games.

And downtown merchants have gotten in on the plan, with a complimentary root beer from Best of Brews and a pizza special at Steverino's.
