Drew Butler's father made a name kicking in the NFL, and now the Peachtree Ridge grad is a step closer to that level of success himself.
The former Georgia All-American signed a rookie free-agent deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who already have his former high school teammate, Cameron Heyward, on the roster. Heyward was a first-round selection in the 2011 NFL Draft.
Butler, whose father is former UGA and NFL kicker Kevin Butler, hoped to be drafted this year, but wasn't selected when the draft concluded Saturday. That left him free to sign with the team of his choice and he agreed to terms with Pittsburgh.
Butler finished his Bulldog career with a 45.2-yard punting average, highlighted by a national-best 48.1 average as a sophomore. He won the Ray Guy Award as the nation's best punter that season.
