SBA golf tourney nets nearly $8K

The team from Kia Mall of Georgia won the 11th annual Suwanee Business Alliance golf tournament on Tuesday at Hamilton Mill Country Club. Scott Jenneman, Dave Owens, Kelly Dyer and Keith Perkins combined to shoot 58 in the best-ball format. The tournament, the largest fundraiser of the year for the SBA, brought in $7,800, about $1,300 more than last year, SBA Treasurer Kathy Forte said. The organization donates the money to local charities in Suwanee and Gwinnett County.

Peachtree Ridge alumnus wins hammer title

Former Peachtree Ridge track and field standout Carson Sears won his first Big South Conference title last weekend in the hammer throw with a distance of 61.24 meters, or about 200 feet. Sears, a sophomore at Gardner-Webb, was also an all-conference selection. Sears also finished second in the shot put with a personal best and school record throw of 16.35 meters, or 52 feet.

Rep. Woodall to speak at Rotary Club Wednesday

U.S. Rep. Rob Woodall will speak on “The State of Georgia in the 7th District” at the Rotary Club of Buford/North Gwinnett meeting on Wednesday. The club typically meets weekly on Wednesdays for lunch at noon at the Home Plate Club at Coolray Field.

Movie Tavern to open May 4

The Movie Tavern location in Suwanee is expected to open May 4, the company said on its Facebook page. Movie Tavern shows first-run movies, offers a casual dining menu, and guests have individual tabletops and button to press for service. It is located in the old Publix building on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road in the Horizon Village.

Game on the Green set for May 5

A live broadcast of the Atlanta Braves game at Colorado will be shown at Town Center Park at 8:10 p.m. on May 5. The Braves’ drum line, the Heavy Hitters, and Braves’ mascot Homer will be on hand. The event begins at 6 p.m.
