NORCROSS -- Peachtree Ridge defeated Norcross 5-3 on Friday night, securing the No. 2 seed in Region 7-AAAAA for next week's Class AAAAA state baseball playoffs. The Lions will open the playoffs at home against Grayson.
Three Peachtree Ridge pitchers threw in the win, getting three innings from starter Colton Ramsey (4-4) with two runs and three strikeouts. Ryne Inman followed with two scoreless innings with five strikeouts, while Bryson Fellers added two scoreless innings for the save.
Leading the offense for the Lions (17-9, 12-6) was Tyler Haswell, who went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Billy Best added an RBI single. Also adding one hit each were Brian Hanberry, Anthony Perez, Steven Tomlinson and Chris Wagner.
Jascanel Ferreras fueled the offense for Norcross, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a stolen base. Trevor Craport had a double and scored a run, while Joseph Wilber went 1-for-2 with a run. Jess Ramsey and Andrew Gray each went 1-for-3, with Gray stealing a base.
Norcross ended its season 9-17 overall and 5-13 in the region.
BASEBALL
Brookwood 10, Archer 1
LAWRENCEVILLE -- Brookwood's Cedric Mullins was a single shy of hitting for the cycle on Friday night in the Broncos' 10-1 win over Archer in region 8-AAAAA action.
Mullins finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs, including a double, triple and home run, while Michael Gouge and Clint Carr each went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Ryan Woodard also added a hit and an RBI.
Woodard was also the winning pitcher, giving up one unearned run in six innings on five hits and two walks with six strikeouts.
The win puts Brookwood (17-7, 13-3) in second place in the region, giving the Broncos a home series next week in the first round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs against North Gwinnett.
Parkview 10, South 0
LILBURN -- Parkview ended its regular season in strong fashion on Friday night with a 10-0 win over South Gwinnett in Region 8-AAAAA action. The win clinched the third straight region title for the Panthers (20-5, 14-2) and 17th overall.
Matt Olson hit and pitched his way in earning the win. At the plate, Olson went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs, while going five scoreless innings with three hits and three strikeouts on the mound. The win bumped his record to 9-0.
Jarrett Freeman also had a good day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a home run, while Jeff Ronpirin had two hits with an RBI. The Panthers will open the Class AAAAA state playoffs at home next week against Collins Hill.
Lanier rained out
TOCCOA -- Lanier's Region 8-AAA playoff series at Stephens County on Friday night was rained out.
The series will begin today at Stephens County with Game 1 scheduled for 10 a.m. and Game 2 at 12:30 p.m. Game 3, if needed, would be played on Monday at a time to be determined later.
BOYS LACROSSE
Mill Creek 16, Brookwood 0
HOSCHTON -- Nine different players scored for Mill Creek on Friday night as the Hawks shut out Brookwood 16-0 in an Area 4-AAAAA match.
Reed Stanton led the Hawks (9-8, 6-3) with three goals and an assist, while Nick Kozlowski added two goals and two assists. Alec Bussink added three more goals, while Andrew Eubanks and Cooper Doyen each scored two goals.
Combining at keeper for the shutout were Alex Schneider and Everette Crump.
Grayson 15, Northgate 3
LOGANVILLE -- Grayson celebrated senior night with a 15-3 win over Northgate on Friday night.
Garrett Gorski led the Rams (11-4) with three goals and an assist. Six other seniors contributed including Zach Dirkse (three goals), Nathan Yetter (two goals), Ben Mertz (two goals, three assists), Ryan Hutcheson (goal), Thatcher Smith (goal) and Josh Parris (six saves at keeper).
Blessed Trinity 14, Wesleyan 4
NORCROSS -- Blessed Trinity topped Wesleyan 14-4 on Friday night in an Area 3-AAAA/A match.
Leading scorers for Wesleyan were Blake Davis and Blake Center with a goal and an assist each, while Jake Miller and Austin Gritters each scored a goal. Wesleyan fell to 5-9 overall and 3-5 in the area.
