NORCROSS -- The Lionheart Theatre Company presents an all-youth version of the Disney musical "The Jungle Book" beginning July 20 with shows at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. The classic show runs through July 22.
Lionheart puts on a children's play every summer with this year's performance coming from the timeless tale by Rudyard Kipling, bringing to life jungle characters, like Mowgli, a young orphan boy, King Louie the orangutan and Kaa, an Indian python, plus lots of colorful sets and favorite Disney songs like, "The Bare Necessities," "That's What Friends Are For" and "I Wanna be Like You." A large portion of younger children will get their first glimpse at the surpassed century old story since the Disney animated version is almost a half-century old in itself, originally releasing in 1967.
Sean Casey, camp director at Lionheart, believes audiences will have a lot to look forward to when they come to see the play.
"The audience should get ready for a safari into a musical jungle with some beloved characters like Baloo the Bear and a few scary dudes, too," he said. "In addition, the show is performed as well as directed, choreographed, teched and staffed entirely by kids and teens -- with a lot of adult supervision."
As a century-old converted church, Lionheart provides a unique and intimate community theater experience. Located in the College Street Playhouse in Historic Norcross, this award-winning theater plays host to a diverse audience. The theater is also close by to the newly renovated Lillian Webb Park, which makes for a great place to take the kids before or after the musical.
In addition to "The Jungle Book," Lionheart will also be running two weeks of drama camps from May 29 to June 1 and June 25 to 29.
"Kids love our fun and creative camps and parents love the reasonable price and great supervision., Casey said about the programs.
All tickets for "The Jungle Book" are $10. Reservations are highly recommended. For more information on the Lionheart Theatre Company, visit the website at www.lionhearttheatre.org, call 678-938-8518 or email email@example.com.
