ATLANTA -- It's been three years since the Georgia Dome has hosted a concert on its field, but this summer, that will change. On June 3, country music superstars Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw stop by the venue for their Brothers of the Sun Tour.
"We are extremely excited to welcome Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw to Atlanta and the Georgia Dome," General Manager at the Dome Carl Adkins said. "Having personally experienced both of these artists' performances, I can say with great certainty that this will be the most awesome show of the entire year."
Brothers of the Sun is the first time in 10 years that the duo have toured together. The two hit the road on June 2 in Tampa, Fla., then travel to Atlanta the next day.
"Tim and I have been great friends since we first toured together, and I can't wait to get back on the road with him," Chesney said in a recent press release. "He's one of my closest friends in music and in life, and I know this tour is going to be something special."
McGraw had the same feelings toward Chensey and the tour.
"Our friendship was forged on the road, so it's going to be a blast heading out with Kenny again," he said in the same release. "We'll be having as much fun on stage as the fans will be having in the audience."
With the tour in mind, the two men spent time in the recording studio together and created a duet called "Feel Like a Rock Star," which they premiered at the Academy of Country Music Awards April 1. Days after the show, the song settled at No. 13 on the Billboard's Country Songs chart.
"This song was such a blast to record and I'm thrilled at the response it's already received," Chesney said. "Going on the road with Tim this summer is just going to be one long party and we can't wait to get started in June."
Besides the concert, staff at the Georgia Dome are gearing up for the onslaught of tailgaters around the venue and in its parking lots. There will be pre-concert games, prizes and concerts for fans.
Attention diehard Chesney fans: Keep an eye out for the Sexy Tractor that the Dome has created. It travels around Atlanta and tweets its location, gives out T-shirts and CDs, and asks the public, "Do you think my trailor's sexy?"
Grace Potter & the Nocturnals and Jake Owen open the concert. Tickets are on sale now.
