LAWRENCEVILLE -- The Aurora Theatre will pull out its last ace of the season with the showing of "The Fox on the Fairway: A New Farce" from Thursday to May 27 on its Main Stage.
The play is written by Ken Ludwig ("Lend Me a Tenor," "Moon Over Buffalo"), who has seen success as a specialist in modern farce. Since Ludwig and the Aurora have long been partners in creating artistic theater, it only seemed logical to have the premiere of "The Fox on the Fairway" at the Lawrenceville theater.
Producing Artistic Director of the Aurora, Anthony Rodriguez is confident in Ludwig's ability to put on a show.
"Our patrons still talk about 'Lend Me a Tenor' and 'Moon Over Buffalo' and as a comic actor, I loved actually being in those shows," he said in a recent press release. "When I found out this new farce was set on the golf course, I knew no other theater in the country has the audience better able to appreciate it than here in golf-crazy Gwinnett."
Ludwig boasts a vast portfolio of works that span from Broadway to London's West End. Ludwig has been nominated for numerous accolades including nominations for Tony Awards and Helen Hayes awards.
The story of "The Fox on the Fairway" includes two country club owners as their hysterical shenanigans play out in a quest for love, money ... and of course, golf.
The Aurora Theatre has selected Atlanta's Dad's Garage Artistic Director Kevin Gilesse to direct the play, helping to wrangle the talents of the region's best comedians, including mainstays at Dad's Garage Improv.
During each performance of the show, one attendee will receive an Ultimate Golf Prize Pack courtesy of the PGA Tour Superstore. The prize pack includes a round of golf for four, plus gift cards to the superstore. The prize pack will be awarded to the first person who can sink a putt on a putting green set up in the lobby of the theater before the show and during intermission.
Performances will be held every Wednesday through Sunday with ticket prices ranging from $20 to $30. A Wednesday matinee on May 23 will be $16. For more information on the Aurora Theatre, visit the website at www.auroratheatre.com or call 678-226-6222.
