BUFORD -- The end of a traffic bottleneck along Ga. Highway 324 will take a little longer than expected.
Officials announced Friday that Monday's milestone of opening all four lanes of a new bridge over Interstate 85 has been postponed.
The delay comes because of the need to finish earthwork in the median and along the shoulder of the roadway, a press release from the Georgia Department of Transportation said.
A new opening date has not been scheduled.
Years ago, Gwinnett County crews widened the highway on both sides of the interstate, but drivers dealt with a bottleneck because state work on the bridge had to wait for funding. That $11.2 million in funding came from federal stimulus dollars.
The one-mile section is scheduled for completion by May 31 and is 93 percent complete, the release said.
