After opening with a brilliant first offering, the second and third installments of the "Mission: Impossible" franchise were a relative letdown. Wisely taking a long break to revisit his Ethan Hunt character, producer/leading man Tom Cruise waited patiently for the right screenplay and gave animation genius Brad Bird ("Ratatouille," "The Incredibles") his first live-action gig. Both men and their respective supporting staffs more than deliver the goods and despite going on for about 30 minutes longer than they should have, they crafted a splendid eye-popping nail-biter.
