Security checks eased for Atlanta airport hires

ATLANTA (AP) — The TSA has given Atlanta's busy airport permission to issue security IDS to workers before background checks are completed because of "extended" delays in the process.

A memo from the airport administration to employers says the Transportation Security Administration is allowing airport and airline workers to receive security passes once they've been fingerprinted. But they don't have to wait for the results of a so-called security threat assessment.

The memo did not say how long delays were running on security checks. It says that airport workers will have to have their clearance completed "at some point" and that security passes will be withdrawn immediately if a check eventually comes back negative."
