PREP ROUNDUP: Four Gwinnett tennis teams advance to second round of state playoffs

SUWANEE -- Peachtree Ridge moved past Berkmar 3-0 Wednesday to advance to the Sweet 16 of the Class AAAAA state playoffs. The Lions (17-2) swept the doubles matches. The sister team of Erin and Ali Mills took care of the No. 1 match, while Rachel Anderson and Riley Guise won at No. 2 doubles. Abby Owens took care of the No. 2 singles match. Peachtree Ridge plays either Woodstock or Milton in the second round next week.


GAC 3, Heard Co. 0

FRANKLIN -- Greater Atlanta Christian blanked Heard Co. 3-0 Wednesday in the first round of the Class AA state playoffs. Remi Andre and Julia Bryan won the first two singles matches. Meghan Mitchell and Rachel Chupp picked up the win the No. 1 doubles match. The Spartans will face either Calhoun or Hart County next week in the second round.


Collins Hill 5, Archer 0

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Collins Hill moved into the Sweet 16 of the Class AAAAA playoffs with a 5-0 win over Archer Wednesday. Chris Clark, Tyler Kallgren and Ian Melnik won the singles matches for the Eagles (19-2). Jake Inderrieden and Marcus Maloney won the No. 1 doubles match, while Alec Rahmanian and Peyton Rushing earned a point in the No. 2 match. Collins Hill hosts Lassiter in the second round next week.

GAC 5, Callaway 0

HOGANSVILLE -- GAC swept Callaway 5-0 Wednesday in the opening round of the Class AA playoffs. David Burdett, Peyton McGuire and Tyler Finazzo swept the singles match. The doubles teams of Andrew Kim and Alex Soh, along with Chase Roberts and Dylan Bauer, were also winners. The Spartans face River Ridge in the Sweet 16 next week.

Walker 3, Wesleyan 1

MARIETTA -- Wesleyan's season came to an end Wednesday with a 3-1 loss to Walker in the first round of the Class A state playoffs. Palmer Brasher and Brooks Prettyman picked up the lone point in the No. 2 doubles match. The Wolves finish the season with an 11-10 record.


Norcross 2, North Gwinnett 1

NORCROSS -- Norcross scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat North Gwinnett 2-1 Wednesday. Andrew Gray knocked in the trying run with a single. A couple of batters later Tanner Maloof scoring the game-winning when Griffin Helms was walked with the bases loaded.

Zach Shirah led the Blue Devils' (9-16, 5-12) offense with two hits and a stolen base. Hampton Floyd had a hit and scored the other run. Ryan Edson (2-1) pitched a scoreless seventh to get the win. Starter Chris Raasch went five innings, allowing four hits and an unearned run to go with two strikeouts.

Collins Hill 9, Duluth 8

SUWANEE -- Nate Williams hit a grand slam as Collins Hill beat Duluth 9-8 Wednesday. John Topoleski had three hits, two doubles and three RBIs for the Eagles (12-10, 9-8).

Jimmy Shea was 2-for-3 and Andrew Alden was 1-for-1. Matt McCain (3-1) allowed one run in three innings to get the win. He gave up three hits and struck out four.

South 10, Dacula 5

SNELLVILLE -- Zack Bogardts was 1-for-1 with three RBIs in South Gwinnett's 10-5 win over Dacula Wednesday. Jordan Ramey added a hit and two RBIs, while Ryan Patterson was 2-for-2 with three runs scored for the Comets (12-13, 8-7). Drew McCarthy added an RBI.

Brandon Matics (4-4) picked up the win. He allowed three earned runs and six hits in five innings. Jake Mullinax pitched two scoreless innings for the save.

Mountain View 6, Morgan Co. 4

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Mountain View knocked off Morgan County 6-4 Wednesday. Tyler Bethune, Forrest Girardeau and Beau Blair each had two hits and an RBI for the Bears (17-8).

Garry Gwaltney also knocked in a run, while Peyton Fore scored twice. Kyle Mitchell (2-0) allowed three hits and one run in two innings to get the win.

Parkview 18, Berkmar 0

LILBURN -- Jack Esmonde and Hunter Thornton each had three RBIs as Parkview beat Berkmar 18-0 Wednesday in three innings. A.J. Davis, Josh Hart and Edwin Arias all had two hits and two RBIs for the Panthers (19-5, 13-2). Esmonde (3-1) pitched all three innings to get the win. He allowed two hits and struck out four.


Wesleyan 3, Apalachee 2

NORCROSS -- Darby Coxhead scored the game-winning goal with seven minutes to go as Wesleyan beat Apalachee 3-2 Wednesday. Katie William and Meagan Hall also scored goals for the Wolves. Coxhead, Lizzie McIntosh and Taylor Panther each had one assist.


Riverside Military 2, Hebron 1 PK

GAINESVILLE -- Hebron lost to Riverside Military 2-1 after dropping the shootout 11-10 after 14 rounds. Goalie Tyler Smith made three saves in the shootout for the Lions (11-6, 6-2). Hebron's lone goal in regulation came on Chris Austin's cross to Braden Elmer, who put it in with a diving header.


Mill Creek 11, Collins Hill 6

HOSCHTON -- Alexis Ordini and Tori Windom each scored four goals as Mill Creek beat Collins Hill 11-6 Wednesday. Emily Hallberg added two goals, while Rachel Gann scored once.

Ordini also had an assist. Goalie Chandler Griffin made eight saves for the Hawks (13-2, 7-1).

Brookwood 15, Archer 2

SNELLVILLE -- Taylor Stercay had five goals and five groundballs to lead Brookwood to a 15-2 victory over Archer Wednesday.

Lindsey Thomson added four goals and seven ground balls for the Broncos (8-6, 4-5). Erin Wynn scored twice, while Brittany Marquis led Brookwood with three assists. Hannah White dished out two assists and Lauren Clay picked up five ground balls. Goalie Brooke Wagner made seven saves.

Parkview 24, Rockdale Co. 0

LILBURN -- Bethany Barbour scored six goals and goalie Lisa McManus earned a shutout as Parkview beat Rockdale County 24-0 Wednesday.

Victoria Petrassi added five goals for the Panthers (7-11) and Riley Fields scored four goals. Trucny Dao and Kelly Spevacek each scored three times, while Mariah Smith had two goals. McManus made nine saves.

North 14, Duluth 7

DULUTH -- Sylvia Chou scored six goals and dished out an assist to lead North Gwinnett to a 14-7 win over Duluth Wednesday.

Katie Verret added three goals and a pair of assists for the Bulldogs (11-5, 8-1). Erica Smith and Lauren Aycock each scored twice, while Smith also had an assist. Goalie Victoria Del Nero made eight saves.


Mill Creek 12, North Forsyth 2

CUMMING -- Nick Kozlowski and Alec Bussink each scored four goals as Mill Creek beat North Forsyth 12-2 Wednesday. Will Peek added two goals for the Hawks (8-8). Kozlowski also led with three assists, while Bussink and Will Byran each had two. Goalie Alex Schneider made nine saves.

North Gwinnett 7, Duluth 0

DULUTH -- Tyler Ortolano scored two goals and added two assists in North Gwinnett 7-0 win over Duluth Wednesday. Alex Smith also scored twice for the Bulldogs (11-1).

Matt Palmer added a goal and an assist, while James Schimkus and Alex Gasta also scored once. Goalie Alex Riggins made eight saves to get the shutout.

Wanted to give a big shout out to Wildcat Zack Erwin, who hit a Grand Slam in his last High School baseball game last night vs. Collins Hill. Way to go Zack! We're proud of ya! Go Cats!
