LAWRENCEVILLE -- Gwinnett's Board of Commissioners has declared the week of Relay for Life "Cancer Prevention Week" in the county.
Chairwoman Charlotte Nash recently made a resolution that the week of April 29 through May 5 be in honor of cancer prevention, mentioning Relay for Life and its participation in a national study this year. Relay for Life will be held on May 4 at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds.
In the resolution, Nash "encouraged all residents to be involved in the fight against cancer."
Gwinnett's Relay, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, has been the top-grossing event in the world for a decade straight. This year, it was selected for a national cancer prevention study called CPS-3, in which volunteers ages 30 to 65 with no history of cancer can participate.
