LILBURN -- Some nine months after bragging that an attempted bank robbery in Lilburn was "easy," two Stone Mountain teens are finally behind bars for their alleged crime.

Gwinnett County police said the two teens now believed to be Tevin Contrell Jones, 18, and Kentay Okera Fields, 17, entered the Wells Fargo on Killian Hill Road last September, passing a note demanding money to a teller.

As the teller gathered money, one suspect reportedly told the other, "I told you this was easy."

Not so much.

The suspects didn't notice the bank employee putting a dye pack in the plastic bag they provided. It exploded, they left the money and they ran.

About a month after the incident, Gwinnett police put out a request for tips in the case. They got one, naming Jones and Fields specifically, "but we didn't have anything else to go on really," Cpl. Jake Smith said Tuesday.

Eventually, though, it would turn fruitful. Jones was eventually arrested on another charged and his fingerprints were tested against those on the demand note that was left at the bank. They were a match and Jones confessed after being arrested April 16, Smith said.

Thursday, police got a warrant for Fields' prints. He also confessed the next day.

"The prints were really what sealed the deal," Smith said.

Both have been charged with one count of robbery and are being held without bond, according to Gwinnett County Jail records.
